Simplify Your Life
De-cluttering, getting organized and simplifying your life are much more than just getting rid of material possessions that no longer serve you. The act of scaling down actually makes space for new physical, mental, emotional and spiritual things that you want more of in your life. The achievement of your goals and dreams is directly proportional to how much you are willing to love and exercise your NO muscle!
"Boundaries, choices and habits have everything to do with organizing." (Janice Russell - Certified Professional Organizer)
- Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui,
by Karen Kingston. To me, this really is not a book about Feng Shui. This book helps you see how your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual clutter is all related, and provides you tools and motivation to open your life!!! Several years ago I had six people recommend this book to me in two weeks. A MUST READ! Another great book by the same author is Creating Sacred Space With Feng Shui: Learn the Art of Space Clearing and Bring New Energy into Your Life.
- The Organized Home web site has tons of ideas, articles and tools for getting organized!
- MOTIVATION123 is a web site devoted to helping you get organized and stay motivated! It has articles, ideas, a free newsletter, checklists, etc.
- The Circle of Simplicity: Return to the Good Life by Cecile Andrews helps you de-clutter your life, identify what is really important to you, and make changes in your life to live simply with more joy and meaning.
- Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach has daily ideas for living more abundantly and simply. It is a great bedside or coffee table book of ideas and concepts to chew on.
Self Care! Self Care!!! SELF CARE!!!!!
Your self care is critical. What feeds your soul? You need to carve out time every day to feed your soul. What can you say NO to in order to make time for you? Remember what they tell you on the airlines if there is an oxygen shortage and those oxygen masks drop … put the oxygen mask on yourself first... There is a reason for taking care of yourself first. You cannot care for or "do" all those critical tasks if you are drained and lifeless.
"Money is not required to buy one necessity of the soul." (Henry David Thoreau)
"Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare." (Japanese proverb) So what are you going to do today to allow vision time into your life?
For me, I love kayaking and spending time with close friends. I schedule my self care time on my calendar. I schedule time on my calendar when I am not "doing" anything. Every morning I have my sacred "Coffee Gratitude Ceremony" time. When I was with IBM the alarm clock would jolt me from sleep and I would dementedly race to be out the door and into rush hour traffic with my coffee and breakfast in hand. My first gift to myself when I started PathMakers was to spend quiet time in the morning savoring the new day, sipping my coffee, and saying out loud the endless multitude of things in my life for which I am supremely grateful. I happen to love Native American teachings. Along with my Gratitude Ceremony, I draw cards from the below two Native American teachings to start my day in a contemplative place close to Mother Earth. This time each morning feeds my soul and sets the tone for my perfect day. What makes sense in your life for daily self care that will feed your soul?

I love Suze Orman! She is an entertaining content rich speaker and I her books are great! Two of her books I especially recommend are:
Shopping Tips
Save Money Buying Books:
These two web sites search 40+ internet book buying web sites (including Amazon), and then give you a list sorted from cheapest to most expensive for buying any specified book. You enter title of book, author or ISBN number for your search. I buy most of my books used. These sites have a rating system so that you can select your used book's condition. My Mom swears that the used books I order her are new!!! I have been using these sites for 5+ years, and I save (including postage) between 50% to 75% off the books I buy:
For whatever reason, Best Web Buys and Fetch Book no longer include www.overstock.com in their search engines. If I am unable to find a good used copy of a desired book, then I often buy from Overstock. Overstock sells new books. They have the cheapest shipping rates I have found as well as usually having the cheapest price on new books.

- An Inconvenient Truth. This movie from Al Gore provides information about our current Global Warming climate crisis and what we can do save our planet. A summary from the "Take Action" link at this site, ten easy things we can do to assure that we have a future on Earth include:
- change light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs
- drive less
- recycle more
- keep your tires inflated properly
- use less hot water
- avoid products with a lot of packaging
- decrease your thermostat
- plant a tree
- turn off electrical devices when not in use, and
- watch "The Inconvenient Truth" movie to educate yourself on where we are going if we do not choose to make changes in our lifestyles!
- Where to Re-cycle:
On the top right corner of this link, Keep America Beautiful lets you enter your zip code and an item of interest that you would like to recycle.
This link provides you with locations and addresses where that item can be re-cycled! How cool is that!!!!! :) :) :)
- Consumer Reports Greener Choices non-profit site provides information about
appliance energy usage, how to read labels, buying cars, food shopping and a host of other information to help you live a healthier
greener less toxic life!
- Toxic materials In The Home with links to alternative recipes and other helpful information
- Guide To Less Toxic Products

- FreeCycle: This non-profit organization's mission is to keep
stuff out of your local landfill. This site provides you a link to a local FreeCycle group. Use this organization to "Offer" (give away for free) anything you have that
still has usefulness. You make an offer with info about what you have, whether or not it needs repair, and a
general location of where you want somebody to pick up the item. Via email
you choose who you want to give your item to, and how you want to them to get it. I put
it on my front porch with their name on it. Ideas of things I have given away and kept out of my landfill:
- empty 40 pound kitty litter buckets (great for gardening, organizing stuff, etc.)
- empty Aunt Jeni's 1 pound plastic raw food containers (again great for organizing things)
- vacuum cleaner bags for a vacuum cleaner I no longer owned
- a shredder that simply needed some repairs that I was unable to do
- stereo speakers that needed to be rebuilt - the wooden shells were perfect but the speaker innards
inside had dry rotted and needed to be replaced
- EPS Recycling: This site has a list companies by state within the US
who take clean Styrofoam (that hard molded stuff that appliances and mail order things often come packed with) and
re-cycle it within their product/s. This site also has a list of companies where you can mail the Styrofoam.
- Bioneers is a non-profit organization which conducts educational and economic development programs in the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, traditional farming practices, and environmental restoration.
- Living On Earth radio show. Site has an extensive programs archive that you can search.
Creating Your Web Site
Many people often ask me about my web page. I created this site myself using what is called a Web Design Template - all
those geeky years with IBM paid off!!! HUGE thanks to my beloved long time soul connection friend from college,
Donna Manley, who traveled all the way from Memphis, TN to Raleigh, NC to be my inspiration and motivation to use a Design Template and "Just Do It"!!!!
- Web Site Hosting: I do my web site hosting with GoDaddy
- Domain Name Registration: I do my domain name registrations with GoDaddy
- Web Design Template: I bought my web design template from AllwebcoDesign Corporation. I cannot say enough about this company. They have a wide selection of function rich web site templates, a fabulous knowledge base of information about how to update their templates, as well as super e-mail technical support. My template is "The Garden". I have added a lot of my own and friends' photos. I use Adobe Photoshop to crop photos for the slices at the top of my web pages.
- Web Page Editing: For editing my web pages I use the freeware program First Page 2006 by Evrsoft.
- Web Site Search Function: Google has both a free and for pay search engine that you can add to your web site. Google's free search engine includes their ads. For my site I opted for the more reasonably priced FreeFind web search engine. FreeFind was very easy to set up on my site and I have been very pleased with their performance. Make sure you do a bit of testing and tailoring at the start to make sure your search includes all pages in your web site.
- Web Site Statistics: I have standard statistics with my GoDaddy hosting. I also use Google Analytics which are function rich, easy to install on your web site, and FREE!!!
